Am I Eligible for Compensation through the VCCO?
You may be eligible for VCCO compensation if you were injured, suffered mental trauma, or lost a family member due to a crime. Individuals who suffered injury while trying to prevent criminal activity or while trying to help a police officer to make an arrest may also be eligible. The crime must be reported within nine months, and you must file your claim with the VCCO within three years of the date of injury or death.
Examples of crimes for which compensation may be provided by the VCCO include but are not limited to:
- Aggravated assault
- Threats of physical harm
- Kidnapping
- Murder / manslaughter
- Burglary
- Domestic violence
- Theft of an automobile
- Sex crimes
- Drunk driving
- All violent crimes
