On Monday, June 19, 2023, Todd Wachtel, Esq. spoke at the 77th Session of the American Legion Jersey Boys State at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey on “Careers in Law.”
The Boys State program, founded in 1935, is a week where a select group of high school-aged youth come together to better understand citizenship and government through operating as a mythical fifty-first state. Legislators are elected, a newspaper is published daily, educational and recreational programs are held, and industry and government leaders are invited to speak at general assemblies.
Todd has been asked to speak on this panel for well-over a decade, having been a proud alumni of the program since attending in 1989. In fact, Todd’s first “Trial” was at Boys State when he had to defend another participant for a violation of a “Boys State” rule. While Todd does not specifically recall the outcome of the Trial, he does remember that he, and his client, ended up having to sing the “Boys State Song” while standing on a chair. We are convinced that results would have been much better today, as is his singing voice.
