As dog lovers and pet owners, we understand the importance of providing our furry friends with the best possible care and nutrition. Unfortunately, sometimes even the most well-intentioned pet parents can unknowingly purchase products that could harm their pets.
Recently, Nestlé Purina PetCare announced a recall of certain lots of their Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EL Elemental dry dog food due to extremely high levels of vitamin D that have been linked to vomiting, loss of appetite, excessive drooling, increased thirst and urination, and even kidney failure in some cases.
The affected dog food was distributed through veterinary clinics in the U.S. that require a prescription, as well as other retailers that authorize prescriptions for the dog food. As such, if your dog eats this brand of food and is experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, we urge you to contact your veterinarian immediately.
Purina is urging pet owners to dispose of the affected dog food in an area where other animals cannot access it, and to contact Purina for a refund.
Just as we must for products we purchase for ourselves, it is crucial for pet owners to be vigilant when it comes to the safety and well-being of their pets, and to always be aware of any product recalls or safety concerns.
At Levinson Axelrod, P.A., we know that product recalls are essential to protecting public safety – both for humans and our furry friends. Unfortunately, as we’ve seen in many defective product cases, companies often don’t issue recalls until injuries and adverse outcomes have already occurred.
If your pet has been affected by a recalled product or you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance. At Levinson Axelrod, we are committed to providing legal support and guidance to pet owners and animal lovers throughout New Jersey.
