The NJ Law Journal’s Top 10 list profiles the largest verdicts and settlements throughout the state of New Jersey over the previous year, as published by the NJ Law Journal between August 21, 2018 and August 19, 2019. The results are ranked in order of case value at the time the award was issued or settlement finalized.
According to the NJ Law Journal, our legal team secured 2 out of the 10 top results – including the #1 award and the #6 award:
- $3.22M Slip & Fall Verdict – Coming in as the New Jersey Law Journal’s #1 noteworthy award was a $3.22M jury verdict secured by Firm Partner Kim Gozsa on behalf of a client who was injured after she slipped and fell on an icy sidewalk at an outlet shopping center in Jackson Township, New Jersey. An investigation conducted by our firm yielded evidence that the ice was a long-standing issue, and had been caused by a leaky soffit left ignored and unfixed by the defendants. Our client, who suffered a hip fracture which necessitated treatment via medical-grade screws, a removal surgery, and a hip replacement surgery, was awarded $3,223,580 by a Monmouth County jury – which included $2.75M for her pain and suffering, $373,580 for lost income, and $100,000 for per quod (compensation awarded to a victim’s spouse). The defense withdrew its offer of $250,000 the night before Plaintiff’s closing.
- $2.5M Verdict Over Multi-Vehicle Accident – Tied for the 6th most noteworthy award as reported by the New Jersey Law Journal was a $2.5M verdict secured by Partner Mark Kuminski in a case involving a three-car accident. This was previously discussed on one of blog posts.
